Daniel Radcliffe is suffering from a rare, agonising medical condition known as ‘cluster headaches’.

The Harry Potter star was forced to cancel a number of professional commitments earlier this year (12) when the pain became so extreme he sought medical attention.

He was diagnosed as suffering from a condition which causes intense pain on one side of the head and is experienced by just one per cent of the population.

Radcliffe tells Britain’s The Independent on Sunday, “I was in the middle of these weird things called ‘cluster headaches’. It’s very rare evidently, but it’s exceptionally painful. It makes a migraine look quite tame. At the time I thought I was being a wuss (coward). I was taking 12 (strong painkillers) a day and going, ‘Why do I still have a headache?’”

The pain of cluster headaches is remarkably greater than in other headache conditions, including severe migraines; experts have suggested that it may be the most painful condition known to medical science. Female patients have reported it as being more severe than childbirth. Dr. Peter Goadsby, Professor of Clinical Neurology at University College London (now University of California, San Francisco), a leading researcher on the condition has commented:

“Cluster headache is probably the worst pain that humans experience. I know that’s quite a strong remark to make, but if you ask a cluster headache patient if they’ve had a worse experience, they’ll universally say they haven’t. Women with cluster headache will tell you that an attack is worse than giving birth. So you can imagine that these people give birth without anesthetic once or twice a day, for six, eight, or ten weeks at a time, and then have a break. It’s just awful.”

Thus, cluster headaches are also known by the nickname “suicide headaches”.

A: Harry and Ron aren’t real people and I think that is confusing for people sometimes but I hope that Daniel and Rupert would like the film ! I am no longer playing the role of Hermione even though I love her dearly! I played her for so long of course it's going to be hard for people to detach me from her but I am Emma and an actress and I hope I have many different people's stories inside of me. If I am lucky Hermione will be just one of many female characters I will play during my career.

Det är helt otroligt att jag fått vara med om hela två möten med JK Rowling! ♥ Det är verkligen något som jag ALLTID kommer kunna blicka tillbaka till och få ny energi och styrka ifrån. ♥

Den långa versionen.

Tryck här för att visa!De två signaturerna med blå bläckpenna är ifrån Danmark när JK Rowling tog emot ett litteraturpris hösten 2010. Första signaturen (den i mitten ur Beedle the Bard-boken) var strax utanför Orkesterhuset och den andra var vid ett annat torg där en kyrkas klockor hade ställts in så att man hörde Hedwigs Theme klinga över Odense. ♥ Boken i fråga är danska versionen av De vises sten.

Andra mötet var ju bara så sjukt stört. Jag hade ALDRIG räknat med att JK Rowling skulle komma till just oss men det hände vid två tillfällen och jag dog andra gången när hon skuttade fram glatt och sedan överrumplades av känslosamma tårar när hon mötte tacksamma och gråtfärdiga ansiktsuttryck. Oooohhh det är helt amazing och underbart att jag fått möjligheten att tacka henne två gånger. Den i Odense kändes mer personlig eftersom ett tack kom direkt under första och andra signeringen - i London fick kompisen möjligheten: hon hade min autografbok under timmarnas gång. Men vilket häftigt ögonblick kompisen fick med JK där. Personligen misstänker jag att JK anade att det var Tom Riddles-dagboken och ville se vem ägaren var: hon kollade rätt in i kompisens ögon och kompisen fick därmed tacka på det mest personliga viset. Så sjukt vackert ♥
