I would have used the expression: ''It was better than DW & HP in some episodes/books.'' sense ''in some was it better'' is grammatically incorrect.

And the best fandom is definitely a matter for debate, as you have to take into consideration which ones are the largest, most devoted, most creative, most elaborate, most complete, etc. I'd say Star Wars beats most others in all of those aspects, but it's difficult to decide as a lot of things are subjective. Or did you perhaps mean which one is people's personal favourite? In that case, Doctor Who, for the same reason as you.
