Niall had this moment planned for months, he had picked out the ring, went to his parents for advice, asked his boyfriend's parents for their advice and had several mental breakdowns before this day.
As cheesy as it was, he was going to propose on Valentines day. Zayn, Liam and Harry were happily surprised when he told them about his plans.

Niall stood outside his boyfriend's door nervously biting his lip. The door opened and there he stood. Louis.
"Hello there, handsome." he said cheerfully.
"Hi, Lou." Niall said shakily. Louis smiled widely and stepped out in the night.
"So, where are we going?" He asked as he took Nialls hand.
"You'll see. It's not far from here." Niall said with a smirk, knowing Louis would go crazy by the curiousity. Louis pouted but didn't try to get it out of Niall. The little box just seemed to get heavier and heavier as the time flew past, even though they talked and laughed on their way to the "secret location".
Niall loved how Louis always would find a way to make him laugh, and he didn't fail to do it dispite Niall's nervous thoughts.
What if he say no?
Am I moving too fast?
Is this a bad idea?
Oh shit it is, isn't it?
Niall snapped into reality as he realized that they were really close.
"The London Eye?" Louis gasped. "All by ourselves?"
"Yeah, do you like it?" Niall asked shyly.
"No. I freaking love it!" Louis exclaimed. "Come on!"
They ran, laughing to the wheel and stepped into the big box (or whatever it's called), as it started to move.
Niall almost felt sick by the nervousness at this point. He looked out at the city and took a few calming breaths.
"Niall?" Louis asked. Niall turned around, and saw Louis nervously playing with the hem of his shirt. "You know I love you, right?"
"I love you too, Lou." To Nialls great surprise Louis went down on one knee and took out a little black box, so much alike the one Niall had in his pocket, and opened it. There was a simple, but beautiful, silver ring on the blue cushion.
"Marry me?" Nialls breath was caught in his troath. "I was going to say some thing really cheesy but..." Louis nervous ranting was cut off by Nialls lips pressed against his own. Niall couldn't help but laugh.
"Fucking hell, Lou, I love you so much!" And then he pulled out his box from his pocket. Louis stared at it, dumbfounded, before he grinned. He crashed their lips together in a passionate kiss.
"I can't belive you mine." he smiled as they stared into each others eyes.
"I love you, Lou."
"I love you too, fiancé."
